Written by the PixID.studio compliance team · July 2026
2026 update: Inside Greece, printed passport photos were accepted only until 31 January 2026. Domestic filings now use myPhoto (digital). Full walkthrough: Greece passport photo / myPhoto guide.
Verified against passport.gov.gr and GSIS myPhoto, July 2026. PixID exports 800×1200 JPEG for Greece Passport — create your photo.
Size trap: Greece uses 40×60 mm, not the usual EU Schengen 35×45 mm.
Background and lighting
The background must be light coloured, uniform and completely shadow-free. Requirements:
- Uniform colour — no gradients, patterns, or textures
- No shadows cast on the background or on the face
- Evenly lit — no dark spots or bright patches
- No other people or objects visible in the frame
Avoid wearing clothing that matches the background colour, as it can blend in and cause rejection.
Expression and appearance
- Expression: Neutral, mouth closed. Mouth closed, no smiling.
- Eyes: both open, looking directly at the camera. No red-eye or glare.
- Ears: Both visible must be visible.
- Glasses: not permitted. Sunglasses and tinted lenses always prohibited.
- Head covering: Religious only. Full face must be visible with no shadows.
- Hair: must not cover the eyes or obscure facial features.
- Clothing: everyday attire. Uniforms not permitted.
Common rejection reasons
- Wrong size — 35×45 Schengen crop instead of 40×60.
- Too few pixels — below myPhoto minimum 800×1200.
- Paper print after the domestic cutover — use myPhoto inside Greece.
- Wrong background — must be light, uniform, shadow-free.
- Glasses / glare / smile — ICAO face rules.
- Photo too old — must be within 6 months.
- Home inkjet print for consular paper route — photographic paper required when prints are used.
- Beautification filters — retouching risks rejection.
