Pakistan Visa Photo — NADRA Portal Specs
Photos for visa.nadra.gov.pk and many Pakistan mission visa packs use a 35×45 mm white biometric crop — same size family as many Schengen prints, but not a US 2×2 booth square and not automatically the same workflow as a DGIP passport renewal. Verified against the NADRA visa portal checklist; embassies can still add stricter local rules.

Visa vs passport: Reusing a drugstore passport print is a common fail when the NADRA portal expects a fresh upload under the Pakistan Visa preset. DGIP passport renewals are a different desk — use Pakistan passport for that path. For e-visa / visit / business uploads, stay on this visa checklist and re-read the portal’s photo rules for your category before you pay the fee.
What the NADRA visa portal usually rejects
Unlike a walk-in DGIP counter, portal uploads fail fast on file quality and crop. Watch for:
- Softbox cheek shadows on an otherwise white wall — automated checks treat this as a non-uniform background.
- Beauty filters / smoothed skin from phone cameras — NADRA and missions flag retouching.
- Cropped group selfies — wrong head size and missing ear visibility.
- US 2×2 square exports stretched into 35×45 — face geometry fails even if the background is white.
- Old passport scan re-uploads — wrong channel and often older than 6 months.
Background and lighting
The background must be white, uniform and completely shadow-free. Requirements:
- Uniform colour — no gradients, patterns, or textures
- No shadows cast on the background or on the face
- Evenly lit — no dark spots or bright patches
- No other people or objects visible in the frame
Avoid wearing clothing that matches the background colour, as it can blend in and cause rejection.
Expression and appearance
- Expression: Neutral. Mouth closed, no smiling.
- Eyes: both open, looking directly at the camera. No red-eye or glare.
- Ears: both visible when hair allows.
- Glasses: not permitted for most visa categories. Sunglasses and tinted lenses always prohibited.
- Head covering: religious only. Full face must be visible with no shadows.
- Hair: must not cover the eyes or obscure facial features.
- Clothing: everyday attire. Uniforms not permitted.
Common rejection reasons
- Wrong channel crop — passport booth print reused for visa.nadra.gov.pk.
- Wrong background — must be white. Any deviation causes rejection.
- Glasses — not permitted unless medically documented.
- Shadows — on the face or background from poor lighting.
- Head size incorrect — face must fill 70–80% of the frame.
- Non-neutral expression — smile, raised eyebrows, or open mouth.
- Photo too old — must be taken within ≤ 6 months.
- Low resolution or blur — minimum 300 DPI for print submissions.
- Digital retouching — beauty filters or skin smoothing cause rejection.
