Canada Print Hack: PixID File + Your Own 4×6 Print
1. Create your compliant Canadian passport photo at PixID.studio ($4.99 USD). Download the 4×6 print sheet with two 50×70 mm photos.
2. Upload to a print lab (Costco online/member print partners, Walmart Photo, or London Drugs PhotoLab) as a standard 4×6 (print price: check in store). Costco does not offer in-store passport capture.
3. Pick up in-store. Cut out the two photos. Get guarantor signature on the back of one.
Canadian Passport Photo Requirements 2026 (IRCC)
Official IRCC Specs — Canada.ca
Canadian-specific dimension: 50×70 mm is not the same as US (51×51 mm) or Schengen (35×45 mm). Many online tools produce the wrong size. PixID correctly crops to 50×70 mm with head 31–36 mm when you select "Canada Passport."
The Canadian Guarantor Rule — What You Need to Know
Canada has a requirement that most other countries don't: a guarantor must sign the back of one of your two passport photos. The guarantor must be:
- A Canadian citizen aged 18 or older
- Someone who has known you personally for at least 2 years
- Not a family member living with you
- Someone with a Canadian passport (for adult applications)
The guarantor writes on the back of the photo: "I certify this to be a true likeness of [your name]" and signs with their name and passport number. This applies regardless of where you get the photo taken — in-store or online.
Online renewal: If you are renewing online via the IRCC portal, you do not need a guarantor signature — you upload the photo digitally. PixID provides both a digital JPEG and a printable sheet.
