Pakistani Passport Photo — UK Renewal Guide (2026)
Quick answer: If you renew in person at Pakistan High Commission London or a consulate, you usually do not bring photos — MRP staff capture your image on site. If you apply via DGIP online MRP, upload a 35×45 mm white-background JPEG (max 5 MB). That is not the same as a UK HMPO passport booth file.

Use this page if / do not use it if
Use this page if: you are a Pakistani citizen living in the United Kingdom renewing a Machine Readable Passport (MRP) — in person at a mission or online through DGIP.
Do not use this page for: applying inside Pakistan at a regional passport office; a UK British passport (see UK photo guide); or a UK visa photo. For NADRA identity cards see CNIC/NICOP photo guide.
Two renewal paths — different photo rules
1. In-person at PHC London or a consulate
Pakistan High Commission London and consulates (including Bradford, Manchester, Birmingham) process MRP applications by appointment. Consulate guidance states applicants do not need to bring photographs — digital photograph and fingerprint capture happen at the MRP counter during processing.
The usual trap is spending money at Boots or Photo-Me for prints you never submit. Confirm your appointment letter and mission checklist before paying for studio photos.
2. Online MRP via DGIP (overseas Pakistani)
Overseas Pakistanis can renew through onlinemrp.dgip.gov.pk. You must upload a digital photograph meeting DGIP specifications — this is where UK diaspora most often need a correctly sized file.
Online MRP photo specifications (DGIP)
| Requirement | Specification |
|---|---|
| Print size | 35 mm wide × 45 mm high |
| File format | JPEG |
| Max file size | 5 MB |
| Background | Plain white, uniform, no shadows |
| Recency | ≤ 6 months |
| Expression | Neutral, mouth closed, eyes open |
| Glasses | No glare; tinted lenses not allowed |
| Editing | No Photoshop or filters; do not crop from a larger casual photo |
DGIP publishes a dimension diagram on the official photo requirements page. PixID exports 413×531 px at 300 DPI for 35×45 mm — see Pakistan Passport doc specs.

What usually goes wrong in the UK
- Paying for UK passport booth prints for an online MRP upload that rejects the crop
- Using a US-style 2×2 inch file from a relative in America
- Off-white or grey booth backgrounds instead of DGIP white
- Beauty filters or portrait mode on phone selfies
- Expired NICOP blocking the passport application after the photo is ready
PixID — $4.99
PixID checks crop, white background, and DGIP pixel dimensions for online MRP — without altering your face. Print the 4×6 sheet at Boots, Tesco Photo, or Snappy Snaps if you also need paper copies for another step.
